A sheikhdom in the Trucial States in eastern Arabia. Under British protection from 1892-1971, Umm al Qiwain joined the independent United Arab Emirates on Dec. 2, 1971. During 1964-72, it issued
a large number of colorful thematic stamps, usually accompanied by
souvenir sheets and imperforate varieties, aimed at the collector market. |
