In 1895 Aachen counted 110.551 inhabitants. In December 1894 Mathias Degraa opened an offiee for local post delivery under the mark name "Merkur".

The stamps 1. and 2. were also used in Düren and Eschweiler.

January 1896: the local post office was taken over by Hendrix. 
On stamp 3.) appeared the surcharges "H" and "2 pf in violet, printed with a hand stamp.

There is a rarely used second surcharge with arabesques.


In 1896 a stamp of Eschweiler was used in Aachen, but there was no beehive on it. Also on the postal stationeries and the 'Kartenbriefen' the beehive was in Eschweiler not used.
