Poughkeepsie is situated between New York City and the Hudson river.

Its logo is a beehive with many bees buzzing around, reflective of the hardworking nature of the people of the city.

Long times the Latin phrase "FERVET OPUS" was not clear. John B. Sterigere, Democratic leader, told the literal meaning: 'the work boils', or, taking translator's license: 'there is a great activity'

We know already the Gloucester hive from a 'commemorative' postmark. According to research the beehive is representative of unity and cooperation of labor for a community.

The symbol dates back to 407 A.D.
